Wood – Wooden items like cutting boards or handles can swell or warp. They might even crack under high temperatures in the dishwasher.

Non-stick pots and pans – Many pans are now dishwasher-safe. However, some non-stick pots and pans can still lose their non-stick ability due to high temperature washing in the dishwasher.

Silver – Unless your silverware is made from 925 silver, silverware should not be put into the dishwasher as ugly black marks can start to appear.

Gold – Ornate gold detailing is delicate and can be washed away in the dishwasher despite some of these dishware being labeled as “dishwasher-safe”.
